King Dasaratha, surrounded by his army, made a journey to King Janaka’s court for the weddings of his four sons. According to the Hindu epic, the Ramayana, the travelers carried with them a wealth of precious gems as wedding gifts.

The Ramayana is a Hindu epic that tells the story of Prince Rama, the perfect prince and his journey to rescue his wife, Sita, from the demon king, Ravana. The story is an allegory for the human struggle between good and evil and is considered one of the greatest works of Hindu literature.

This folio was likely painted at the court of Jammu or possibly Basohli, two kingdoms located in the northern part of India.
The robust yellow ground is a hallmark of this series.
