Odilon Redon was a renowned French symbolist painter and printmaker. He is well known for his unique style that blended reality with dream-like themes and symbols. He is best known for his use of black and white for most of his early drawings. However, after 1900, he shifted his focus towards paintings and pastels in sensuous color.

Redon’s late works in color took nature’s small beauties, such as butterflies, seashells, and flowers, as objects of contemplation. He presented these subjects with a fantastic intensity, capturing the essence of nature’s beauty in a unique and imaginative way. With his use of vibrant colors, Redon was able to bring a sense of wonder and magic to his paintings, capturing the viewer’s attention and evoking a feeling of awe.
